Joseph Aelion was born on December 15, 1889 in Thessaloniki, in northern Greece. He comes from a Jewish family.
He moved to France and settled in Paris, in the 9th arrondissement where he was listed in 1938 at 37 rue de Maubeuge.
He works as a commercial employee. He had to flee the rise of Nazism around 1939-1940 and go down to settle in the South of France since he was arrested in Nice in the fall of 1943 at the age of 54.
He was interned for a while at the Drancy camp under the number 8428 then transferred to Auschwitz by convoy 64 of December 7, 1943 where he probably died on his arrival on December 10, 1943 (deduction made in view of his age and the fact that he does not have a number assigned to Auschwitz).
